Having knowledge about bank holidays for any given month is a necessity if you want to perform banking tasks either regularly, or have plans for any occasion.
Also, bank holidays are usually not widespread across all of the country except for the major holidays. Some bank holidays are in specific states/regions and hence if you are not aware of those holidays, your banking activities might be affected.
As long as January 2024 is concerned there are 16 days in which banks will be closed altogether. However, not all holidays are country-wide; some are just regional. So here’s a complete list of bank holidays in January 2024.
January 01 (Monday)- New Year’s Day
January 07 (Sunday)
January 11 (Thursday)- Missionary Day (Mizoram)
January 12 (Friday)- Swami Vivekananda Jayanti (West Bengal)
January 13 (Saturday)- Second Saturday
January 14 (Sunday)
January 15 (Monday)- Pongal/Thiruvalluvar Day (Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh)
January 16 (Tuesday)- Tusu Puja (West Bengal and Assam)
January 17 (Wednesday)- Guru Govind Singh Jayanti
January 21 (Sunday)
January 23 (Tuesday)- Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti
January 25 (Thursday)- State Day (Himachal Pradesh)
January 26 (Friday)- Republic Day
January 27 (Saturday)-Fourth Saturday
January 28 (Sunday)
January 31 (Wednesday): Me-Dam-Me-Phi (Assam)
You must note that these days are the days in which the bank branches will be closed (in those respective areas) and hence inaccessible. However, you will be able to perform digital banking activities via net banking, mobile banking, and UPI.
You will also be able to withdraw cash using ATMs, provided they are loaded with sufficient money. If an ATM runs out of cash, it will only be refilled on the working day following a bank holiday!
Hence, if you have any banking task that requires you to visit the branch, or if you want to withdraw a substantial amount of cash, it is best to plan it on a bank working day!
